  • BANGLADESH TONGI ERSHAD COLONY 13OCT00 - Our interpreter, Khaleq, holds on to a pile of leaflets as we get crowded by slum-dwellers asking for leaflets. Although most of these people were illiterate, they were desperate to get hold of a piece of paper which might have been of some use. The leaflets contained a baby-picture of Lisa (taken from her 1975 Bangladeshi passport) as well as (the given) details of Lisa's parents and a contact address. ..jre/Photo by Jiri Rezac..© Jiri Rezac 2000..Tel/Fax: +44 (0) 20 8968 9635.Mobile: +44 (0) 7801 337 683..Email: jiri@jirirezac.com.Web: www.jirirezac.com..All pictures © Jiri Rezac 2000. • BANGLADESH NETRAKONA GURGAPUR 18OCT00 - Lisa (R), Mr MD Adbul Jabber (C) and a group of villagers listen to Fildiz Kathoon (2R) who explains how she lost her daughter. During the conversation it became clear that Lisa cannot be her daughter as neither their ages nor any physical marks that Mrs Kathoon remembered matched...jre/Photo by Jiri Rezac..© Jiri Rezac 2000..Tel/Fax: +44 (0) 20 8968 9635.Mobile: +44 (0) 7801 337 683..Email: jiri@jirirezac.com.Web: www.jirirezac.com..All pictures © Jiri Rezac 2000. To date, Mrs Noorjahan and Yasmin (living in the Netherlands) have not met...jre/Photo by Jiri Rezac..© Jiri Rezac 2000..Tel/Fax: +44 (0) 20 8968 9635.Mobile: +44 (0) 7801 337 683..Email: jiri@jirirezac.com.Web: www.jirirezac.com..All pictures © Jiri Rezac 2000. • BANGLADESH NETRAKONA DURGAPUR 17OCT00 - Our friend and translator, Mr MD Abdul Jabber, hands out leaflets to local high-school girls who promised to spead our appeal for information. Numerous people came forward upon the news of our presence, claiming to be Lisa's parents. However, we verified that most people's stories were either fabricated or did not otherwise match the details of Lisa's case. ..jre/Photo by Jiri Rezac..© Jiri Rezac 2000..Tel/Fax: +44 (0) 20 8968 9635.Mobile: +44 (0) 7801 337 683..Email: jiri@jirirezac.com.Web: www.jirirezac.com..All pictures © Jiri Rezac 2000. • BANGLADESH DHAKA 12OCT00 - Lisa during her interview with Daily Prothom Alo (Morning Light) staff reporter Mrs Serene Ferdous at her offices in downtown Dhaka. In retrospect, it was the appeal and interview published in the newspaper that gave Lisa's cause the greatest possible exposure - and yielded some results. ..jre/Photo by Jiri Rezac..© Jiri Rezac 2000..Tel/Fax: +44 (0) 20 8968 9635.Mobile: +44 (0) 7801 337 683..Email: jiri@jirirezac.com.Web: www.jirirezac.com..All pictures © Jiri Rezac 2000. • BANGLADESH TONGI ERSHAD COLONY 13OCT00 - The Ershad camp chairman (C, seated) listens to our appeal for information about the possible whereabouts of Lisa's biological parents. In the past, several Dutch-Bangladeshi children (now adults) have visited the Ershad colony and by a freak accident, found their biological parents. In one case, the girl in question, Rashida, recognised the immediate surroundings of her old home and simply walked home into the arms of her mother!..jre/Photo by Jiri Rezac..© Jiri Rezac 2000..Tel/Fax: +44 (0) 20 8968 9635.Mobile: +44 (0) 7801 337 683..Email: jiri@jirirezac.com.Web: www.jirirezac.com..All pictures © Jiri Rezac 2000. • BANGLADESH NETRAKONA DURGAPUR 18OCT00 - Lisa in the front seat of our Jeep on the way to another village in the Durgapur area. After two days of searching, we had to call it off as we realised that with all the fabricated stories, we were ending up chasing phantoms. After all, we verified that the village Bashra, given as the birthplace of Lisa's mother, Mrs Jarina Kathoon, does not exist in the Durgapur area...jre/Photo by Jiri Rezac..© Jiri Rezac 2000..Tel/Fax: +44 (0) 20 8968 9635.Mobile: +44 (0) 7801 337 683..Email: jiri@jirirezac.com.Web: www.jirirezac.com..All pictures © Jiri Rezac 2000. • BANGLADESH DHAKA 11OCT00 - Lisa studies adoption papers presented to her by Mr Moslem Ali Khan, a wealthy businessman who personally handled Lisa's adoption case in 1975. Although Mr Moslem Ali Khan worked very closely with the Salvation Army's child adoption programme for several years (and enjoyed his status as power of attorney), he enjoys a dubious reputation. In the past, he had to defend himself against accusations of child trafficking and kidnapping which remain unresolved to this day...jre/Photo by Jiri Rezac..© Jiri Rezac 2000..Tel/Fax: +44 (0) 20 8968 9635.Mobile: +44 (0) 7801 337 683..Email: jiri@jirirezac.com.Web: www.jirirezac.com..All pictures © Jiri Rezac 2000. • BANGLADESH NETRAKONA DURGAPUR 17OCT00 - Village elder study the leaflet we handed out stating the known (or suspected) details about Lisa's biological parents. According to the adoption affidavit, Lisa's mother, Mrs Jarina Kathoon, lived in the village Bashra in Durgapur, Netrakona District. Upon our visit, we learned that no village with such a name exists in the Durgapur area. ..jre/Photo by Jiri Rezac..© Jiri Rezac 2000..Tel/Fax: +44 (0) 20 8968 9635.Mobile: +44 (0) 7801 337 683..Email: jiri@jirirezac.com.Web: www.jirirezac.com..All pictures © Jiri Rezac 2000.
