SPAIN GALICIA AS PONTES 1OCT08 - Greenpeace activists projected "Quit Coal, Save the Climate" in Spanish and in English, onto the cooling towers of the As Ponters coal fired power plant in A Coruña, which consumes 20% of Spanish coal and is one of the most polluting power plants in Europe. The protest comes a week before the European Parliament votes on the EU's climate.package, and the construction of over 50 coal plants in Europe...Greenpeace demands the EU votes for measures to block the construction of coal plants, and cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30% by 2020. The protest is part of a 4 month "quit coal" ship tour from Israel to Poland, in the run-up to crucial climate negotiations in Poznan, Poland this December.
