  • BANGLADESH NETRAKONA DURGAPUR 17OCT00 - Our friend and translator, Mr MD Abdul Jabber, hands out leaflets to local high-school girls who promised to spead our appeal for information. Numerous people came forward upon the news of our presence, claiming to be Lisa's parents. However, we verified that most people's stories were either fabricated or did not otherwise match the details of Lisa's case. ..jre/Photo by Jiri Rezac..© Jiri Rezac 2000..Tel/Fax: +44 (0) 20 8968 9635.Mobile: +44 (0) 7801 337 683..Email: jiri@jirirezac.com.Web: www.jirirezac.com..All pictures © Jiri Rezac 2000. • BANGLADESH TONGI ERSHAD COLONY 13OCT00 - The Ershad camp chairman (C, seated) listens to our appeal for information about the possible whereabouts of Lisa's biological parents. In the past, several Dutch-Bangladeshi children (now adults) have visited the Ershad colony and by a freak accident, found their biological parents. In one case, the girl in question, Rashida, recognised the immediate surroundings of her old home and simply walked home into the arms of her mother!..jre/Photo by Jiri Rezac..© Jiri Rezac 2000..Tel/Fax: +44 (0) 20 8968 9635.Mobile: +44 (0) 7801 337 683..Email: jiri@jirirezac.com.Web: www.jirirezac.com..All pictures © Jiri Rezac 2000. • CANADA ALBERTA FORT CHIPEWYAN 21JUL09 - Detail view of screen display of the findings of Mike Mercredi's geographical Information Systems data at his office in Fort Chipewyan, northern Alberta, Canada...A trained technician, Mercredi is resposible for the collection and presentation of data that documents the sacred sites, medicinal plants and hunting grounds of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation...The tar sand deposits lie under 141,000 square kilometres of sparsely populated boreal forest and muskeg and contain about 1.7 trillion barrels of bitumen in-place, comparable in magnitude to the world's total proven reserves of conventional petroleum. Current projections state that production will grow from 1.2 million barrels per day (190,000 m³/d) in 2008 to 3.3 million barrels per day (520,000 m³/d) in 2020 which would place Canada among the four or five largest oil-producing countries in the world...The industry has brought wealth and an economic boom to the region but also created an environmental disaster downstream from the Athabasca river, polluting the lakes where water and fish are contaminated. The native Indian tribes of the Mikisew, Cree, Dene and other smaller First Nations are seeing their natural habitat destroyed and are largely powerless to stop or slow down the rapid expansion of the oil sands development, Canada's number one economic driver...jre/Photo by Jiri Rezac / GREENPEACE..© Jiri Rezac 2009
